So happy to have found you and this series. I am new to twitter but it is already paying off big time. Today I began following Ami and saw her tweet about your posts. They are very well written and of course a wealth of information. Now I will follow you too! ) I see we travel in the same “crowd.”

Thanks Kenn for the kind words. I am – at your suggestion – reading McNally’s book. It is good – a little too exlcusively Nikon in the early stages for a canon user like me, but very insightful all the same

Hi Marco. Malcolm Kyle directed me to this blog and I’m so glad he did. I love this last post and those last images in particular. You’v relly captured the beauty and atmosphere. Your right about off camera flash. It isnt rocket science but does need practice. You’ll have a whale of a time with Gels as they really do bring on play time! I love using a CTO gel and letting the ambient light go a deep blue, someting which I bet has enornous potential in your location. Highly recomend a book called “The hot shoe diaries” by Joe Mcnally. Well worth a look. Best regards Kenn

Thanks for these tips Marco. I love panning shots but I’ve yet to master the technique. Starting out with #1 would be a good place for me but in the meantime, I’ll try #2-10…

I stumbled on your blog through a means I no longer remember and bookmarked it for later reading. I just finished the whole wonderful series with Ami Vitale. It enlightened me on some of my own photographic shortcomings and on new/forgotten ways to look through the viewfinder and at a scene.

I agree – stupidly it took me about 2 hours to work out I was still on the central focus point and making my life more difficult!
